Villa Ferraia , a fairy that comes true, sits on a hilltop surrounded by a forest of oak, cork and chestnut trees and is located in a tiny stone village called Castello di Tocchi (Comune of Montinciano), which confines with Siena and Grosseto. Records show the villa dates back to 1204 when it gets its name from the word “ferro” (iron) which was mined there during medieval times.
In 1995 the present owner bought the property and has painstakingly restored it, transforming it into a wonderfully luxurious estate that allows guests the opportunity to coddle themselves enjoying the relaxing power of nature combined with the best comfort and the facility to be close from all the major sites of Tuscany.
In the extensive gardens surrounding the property, there is an original beautiful large pool - 20 mt in length and 1.6 mt in the deepest section - positioned below the villa. The lawn surrounding the pool is dotted with sun beds, chairs and umbrellas, providing guests the perfect sunny position to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views of the river Merse valley.
Next to the pool there are a spa baths area, actually under construction, and a sauna.
The three spa baths are down some steps from a large sunny terrace. Each small pool, located in the most quite part of the villa, is lined with seats and has a different water temperature and it’s already usable: lie down and listen to the sounds of nature admiring the panorama from the pools seems amazingly unreal!
The sauna, equipped with showers and changing rooms, is open for use during predefined times of the day, the exact times will be provided on arrival at the Villa Ferraia.
The property is surrounded by its own large grounds; those immediately adjacent to the house have been carefully landscaped to provide pretty lawns with magnificent flower beds and fantastic views.
The well maintained garden leads into a natural forest area that covers most of the land of Villa Ferraia; the forest has several hiking trails with benches where it’s possible to admire the incredible view and the livestock – such as rare breed of pigs, chickens, sheeps and the famous Chianina - that belong to the villa owner.
Towards the villa there is a huge vegetable garden filled with local products that can be picked and used for an evening meal at the villa. There is also a large green house and a covered terrace with cooking facilities where guests can assist the chef in preparing meals.
But, the chances of a unique stay, offered by Villa Ferraia, are not ended: scattered around the gardens are several furnished terraces where it is possible to enjoy the sun embrace in total tranquillity; close to one side of the pool, there is also a campfire area which has been carefully chosen and laid with large stones to make a fire pit. The wood is provided and the charm of the experience is guaranteed.
Across the lawn, hidden in the surrounding forest, is an Astronomical Observatory equipped with a high-tech telescope, providing guests with the opportunity to star gaze far away from the cities lights pollution. Although, the observatory cannot be used without qualified supervision, the Astronomical Society of Siena is at guests disposal by appointment, to show and explain the wonders of the night skies.
Externally accessed from the main building is another building which houses a small library and cinema with adjoining toilets. This airy room is furnished with comfortable chairs and equipment for film projection and, apiece to your needs, can be converted into a conference room.
Next to the dining area there is a glass conservatory with a small bar where guests can meet to enjoy pre-dinner aperitifs, or just relax and enjoy the views of the gardens and valley beyond.
The services of a chef are included in the price – apart the food - of the villa and he will prepare guests breakfasts and dinners on request. Meals will be served in the spacious dining room or out on the large sunny patio covered by umbrellas.
